IHM MUMBAI - A PROFILE

The Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Mumbai, the first of its kind in South East Asia was founded in the year 1954 by the All India Women's Central Food Council under the leadership of the late Smt. Lilavati Munshi.

The objectives of the Institute is to ensure Professionalism at all levels for the entire food and accommodation Industry-hotels, motels, tourist homes, hospitals, industrial complexes, mobile catering services, holiday homes, residential halls, clubs etc.

With six students on its roll at the inception, the Institute now has an intake of 180 students for the Three-Year Diploma course, the highest in the country. Besides the institute has kept up its tradition of conducting various other need-based courses which are not conducted by other Institutes.

Its campus is situated in the heart of Mumbai and boasts of upto date modern laboratory and equipment Its computer network is modern and with internet facilities added this year is able to meet the demanding needs of the students body in an changing environment. Besides it also has 8 kitchens 2 training restaurants, cafeteria, AV room, library and hostel facilities for 265 students both and girls.

The 3-star level Applied Training Centre (ATC), run by the students of the Institute is growing from strength to strength and caters to the need of corporate houses as well as the commercial traveler & tourist.

National Tourism Award for Excellence '98-99'

IHM Mumbai, has won the much coveted award of excellence for the best Tourism Education Institution, awarded by the Department of Tourism, Govt. of India, for the Third year in succession. Besides in April 98, Principal S L Dhargalkar. Was the recipient of the Lions, Gold Award for his outstanding contribution to Hospitality Education. This is in testimony the hard work and dedication of its Principal, Staff and Students.


IHM Mumbai, conducts over 10 courses and trains over a thousand young people annually. The courses vary from a Three-Year Diploma Course in Hotel Management to the Post Diploma Course in Accommodation Operation & Management and the Dietetics Course. We also conduct the Craftsmanship Course in Food Production & Patisserie, which is of one and a half-year duration and the Certificate Course in Food & Beverage Service and the Hotel Management Course of six months duration.

The Institute hopes to progress into the new millenium with vision and fortitude to meet the ever-growing demands and challenges, which it will bring.
